We have been bitten by the rock hunting bug around here and the kids absolutely love it!
Living in the country, we don't have the chance to search every day, but whenever we are in town the kids are always glancing around for a bright little surprise. I love that each find brings a smile to our faces and the kids are quick to re-hide for another child to find.
This has been such a great gift to me personally as a momma who is trying to keep my kids from always wanting to buy a new toy every time we go to the store. Don't get me wrong, I love shopping for new things too, and have a wishlist of my own. But the toys that my kids will be tired of by the time we get are buckling in to go home are just getting really old.
I love this rock craze for the artistic quality too. Painting is one of our favorite art activities and the rocks bring a newness to painting that we really needed. Each creation is a new gift to give to someone or used to decorate our own garden. We even made a memory stone for a relative in heaven.
If you haven't tried painting and hiding rocks with your kids yet, I highly recommend it. We have so much fun with it and I think you will too!
I hope the love of searching for little reasons to make people smile continues long after this summer has passed.
